Interventional Ultrasound Department

The Department of Interventional Ultrasound at Shanghai International Medical Center (SIMC) — also home to the Zhang Jianquan Ultra-Minimally Invasive Program — is led by Professor Zhang Jianquan, a senior interventional ultrasound specialist, pioneer of radiofrequency and microwave ablation for thyroid disorders, and one of China’s Top 100 Physicians. The department specializes in precision-guided, minimally invasive therapy using interventional ultrasound. Guided by the philosophy “Rooted in clinical practice, research first,” it delivers personalized ultra-minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic solutions, complemented by compassionate, patient-centered care. With extensive experience in caring for international patients, the department has treated patients from 14 countries to date. Since its founding in 2016, the department has performed over 8,000 minimally invasive interventional ultrasound procedures spanning a broad spectrum of indications at SIMC. It is particularly recognized for expertise in thermal ablation for papillary thyroid carcinoma with lymph node metastases, hyperparathyroidism, and breast tumors. Ultra-minimally invasive thermal ablation is available for benign thyroid tumors, hyperthyroidism, papillary thyroid carcinoma, metastatic carcinoma to the lymph nodes, hyperparathyroidism, breast tumors, uterine fibroids, salivary gland tumors, and hepatic and renal tumors. Percutaneous sclerotherapy is available for cysts of the liver, kidneys, and other organs.
